Skeleton Footprint Coir Doormat

Skull Footprint Halloween Doormat

DIY Halloween doormat is a must! Transform a basic coir mat into something made to compliment your other Halloween decorations for spooky season.

You will need:

  • Cutting machine
  • Coir doormat
  • Acrylic paint with foam brush OR spray paint
  • Permanent vinyl. We’re going to remove it afterwards, it’s just that temporary vinyl won’t adhere to coir
  • Transfer paper
  • Painter’s tape
  • Gloves
  • Weeding tools

Halloween Doormat Step-by-Step

Part 1: Making Vinyl Stencil

  1. Measure your coir doormat.
  2. Resize the SVG to however big or small you want your design to be. In this post, we’re using spooky skeleton footprints.
  3. Process cutting using permanent vinyl.
  4. Weed the design making a stencil. That means we’re plucking out the smaller cuts. This skeleton footprint is fairly easy to weed. For other designs, it might be useful if you keep an image to check what you should be weeding.
  5. Lift the vinyl using transfer paper.
  6. Remove the backing paper and place the vinyl on the coir doormat.
  7. You can secure and cover the rest of the doormat with painter’s tape to prevent paint landing on unwanted parts.

Part 2: Painting The Doormat

You have two options when painting the doormat: by using acrylic paint and foam brush or by using spray paint. You probably already have these at home. Just use whatever’s easy.

Painting Halloween Doormat with Foam Brush

  1. Make sure you have enough acrylic paint for at least 2 coats.
  2. Dip foam brush in acrylic paint and start coloring the coir mat in dabbing motion. Applying it lightly should suffice. We don’t want blobs of paint in the first coat.
  3. Let dry for about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Apply a second coat. If you think it needs more color, just wait till it dries and add more paint.
  5. Remove vinyl stencil when the last coat dries.

Painting Halloween Doormat with Spray Paint

  1. Spray the doormat from above at a 90° angle to prevent paint leaking to the underside of the stencil. First coat should be applied thinly.
  2. Give it at least 20 minutes to dry.
  3. Spray the second coat. If you think it needs more color, just wait till it dries and add more.
  4. Remove vinyl stencil when the last coat dries. For spray paint, you might need to air out the doormat overnight before any trampling happens.

Haunted House Halloween Door Corner

A Halloween door corner decoration is inarguably the easiest SVG craft in this list. You only need to cut and stick it on the wall. It also works for window corners, cabinet, and fridge corners.

Materials needed:

  • Cutting machine
  • Craft foam sheet
  • Wall-safe adhesive strips or foams
  • Weeding tools

How to make Halloween door corner:

  1. Open and resize the SVG file as needed. I usually scale it to fit the space I have on my wall. If I have a lot of free space I’d resize it near to the maximum size of my Cricut / Silhouette.
  2. Load craft foam on cutting mat, make sure your cutting mat is sticky enough so the foam sheet doesn’t get lifted during the cutting process.
  3. Adjust the cutting setting for craft foam.
  4. Start the cutting process.
  5. Detach foam sheet from cutting mat and weed the unwanted parts.
  6. Place adhesive strips on the craft foam. Pay attention to smaller parts that branch out.
  7. Attach to wall.

This Halloween door craft can also be done on wooden materials. You can use Cricut Basswood if you’re using Cricut Maker. Or maybe you have access to a laser cut machine. Just paint over the wooden craft and attach using adhesive strips.

Using foam and wood is nice because when the spooky season is over, you can detach and keep them for next year’s Halloween.

We have over 40 different designs of Halloween door corners included in our Halloween Craft Bundle. Want to decorate every door in your house? Just grab the bundle and go for it!

Wood Burn Halloween Door Sign with Custom Text

Halloween Door Wood Burn Roundsign
Wood Burn Halloween Round Sign

Give your door a touch of rustic look with wood burn Halloween door sign!

You will need:

  • Cutting machine
  • Natural or unfinished wood round
  • Vinyl for stencil
  • Food thickener
  • Ammonium chloride
  • Water (warmed)
  • Bowl
  • Heat gun
  • Protective gloves

Before going ahead with crafting our Halloween door sign. I’ll tell you how to prepare DIY wood burn gel.

Add 8 tablespoons of food thickener, 1 tablespoon of ammonium chloride, and half a cup of warm water to a bowl. Mix it thoroughly and rest for a couple of minutes. It should be ready to use.

Halloween wood burn door sign step-by-step:

  1. Measure your wooden board.
  2. Open SVG file and resize. Add custom text.
  3. Load vinyl on the cutting machine and start cutting.
  4. Because we’re making stencil, weed out the design as opposed to making a decal. Keep an image of the file handy.
  5. Lift vinyl with a transfer sheet.
  6. Attach the vinyl on your wooden board.
  7. Apply wood burn gel sparingly. Just a little goes a long way.
  8. Wait for the gel to dry and remove vinyl.
  9. Take it outside, wear your gloves, and apply a heat gun on it. Don’t stay in one spot when applying heat. Parts that aren’t covered with gel can also burn with too much heat. Just keep moving the heat gun and you can see the design turn darker little-by-little.
  10. Display Halloween door sign with a string or hook.

Tip: You can wear protective eyewear and a mask because it can get smoky.

Halloween Door Round Sign 2

How to make round Halloween door sign:

  1. Add a coat of polyurethane or polycrylic spray to your white wood round. NOTE: If you didn’t manage to get your hands on white wood round. Just paint an unfinished wood round with water-based white paint and wait until dry before spraying polyurethane.
  2. Open SVG file in Cricut Design Space and resize to the size of your wood round.
  3. For text designs, I prefer to “Weld” texts in the same color as one. So, they will be cut in the exact order and shape they’re designed. I also weld together designs that create specific shapes. As for other shapes, I can just go through them when I assemble everything together at the end.
  4. Click “Make It” and the app will automatically sort the designs by color into multiple mats.
  5. Adjust the cutting material setting to the type of vinyl you’re using.
  6. To start the first round of cutting, attach the vinyl with matching color to the mat.
  7. Load the mat and click “Cut”.
  8. After that’s done, unload vinyl from the mat and repeat the process on other colors.
  9. If all colors are done. Weed the designs.
  10. Cut as needed and lift all of the designs using transfer tape.
  11. Arrange all the vinyl by comparing it to the original file. Keep the original file open on your computer or phone.
  12. Remove the backing paper and stick the vinyl. Start with one that is the biggest or most centered first. It’ll act like an anchor to the rest of the vinyl.
  13. Display Halloween door sign with a string or hook.

Halloween Door Vertical Porch Sign

The steps to making Halloween porch signs are very similar to making colorful round signs from before. However, since porch signs are bigger the cutting area is limited, you might need more rounds of cutting.

We created the designs for 48″ x 12″ frames. But you can totally resize them as you wish. Some of these designs will still work if edited to one color. So if you’re tight on vinyl supply, don’t worry.

Materials needed:

  • Cutting machine
  • Long wood sign (48″ x 12″ recommended)
  • Vinyl in multiple colors
  • Weeding tools
  • Transfer paper
  • Polyurethane or polycrylic spray
  • Parchment paper

How to make Halloween porch sign:

  1. Add a coat of polyurethane or polycrylic spray to your wood sign.
  2. Open SVG file in Cricut Design Space and resize to the size of your wood sign.
  3. Since the size of a cutting mat is 12″ x 12″ and there are multiple colors in the SVG, you need to strategically “Weld” items so they fit best. I usually weld texts together like how I did in round signs. However, in vertical texts I usually keep 3 big letters maximum. I also weld together designs that create specific shapes. You can check how they fit on a mat by making a 12″ x 12″ square in the background.
  4. Click “Make It” and the app will automatically sort the designs by color into multiple mats. Steps after this are exactly the same as making round signs. It will differ a bit at the end.
  12. To help you align the pieces of vinyl. Start with one that is on the top. Remove the backing paper and use parchment paper to see where to attach it. Stick the vinyl bit-by-bit.
  13. Continue this process until all parts are done.
  14. Display your Halloween porch sign.

You may be wondering if you need to seal vinyl for round sign and porch sign. It is optional. If you’re using high quality vinyl, they won’t chip away. But if you just want to be sure they’re long-lasting then please do so.
