How to Make Craft Products That Prospective Buyers Like, Guaranteed Sales!

Share :

Whether you are a new crafter or someone with years of crafting experience, the million-dollar question that most crafters have is probably “how to sell handmade craft”. Well to tell you the truth, starting a craft business is never an easy feat for anyone.

Especially with the rapid growth of the handmade DIY business, it could be an unsolvable mystery. One of the answers that—in my opinion—works best to solve this problem is to make craft products that are innovative and have a wide prospect.

That leads to another question: How exactly do you make an innovative and prospective craft? You have come to the right place, my friend! Let me tell you…

How to Sell Handmade Craft to Prospective Buyers

1. Know the business prospect

Depending on what you’re selling, the prospect of each business will differ. So before we get on to the next steps, you need to first decide what your business will sell and focus on. If you have that baseline already, then you will have an easier time proceeding.

When you’re learning about how to sell handmade crafts, especially online, it’s good to make use of the all-knowing Internet. Even a simple Google search or surfing your favorite e-commerce platform can help you measure just how successful other businesses are before you.

It would be even better if you can do more in-depth research regarding locations, price range, and other related topics that you can use to boost your sales in the future.

2. See into the future!!

There are literally tons of outside factors that play into your business prospects. Especially in the long run. So being able to see into the future is important.

Okay, maybe not literally—we’re not fictional superheroes. It’s really more like the ability to make a prediction, or an educated guess regarding the opportunity and threats your business might face in the future.
Take the economic recession, for example. It is said that within the next year, the world will hit a pretty bad economic recession. This, of course, will affect your business and this is just one example from many others!

In my personal experience, the safest bet for your business is to make craft products that can fall into one of these groups:

  • Holiday exclusive items: From Easter, 4th of July, Halloween to Christmas, there are so many variants to develop.
  • Personalized gifts: Anniversaries and birthdays are a year-long prospect for DIY businesses.
  • Kids and babies: Parents will always want to spoil their children, so making a kids-focused line in your business can be a great idea.
  • Pets: Pet owners’ weaknesses are those cute tiny trinkets and toys. They can spend a fortune on their fur babies!
  • Home decor: This can fall into the holiday items, but can also be more general and not as time-sensitive.

This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t make craft products outside of the list above, or that the products in those categories are completely fool-proof, of course!

3. Always put quality first

You might aim to put out the cheapest items for your customers so that more people would buy your craft. But selling at low prices should never mean low quality!

Doesn’t matter how cheap your craft products are, if the customers are not keen on the quality, they will not want to buy it. People would rather pay a little bit more money for higher quality products.

And besides, it’s not like high-quality resources are hard to find!

Take Drizy Studio for example. Even though all of the provided SVGs are high-quality and original designs, they only cost a few dollars each. Not to mention the fact that each design also comes with proper and legal licenses so that they can be sold accordingly.

Using high quality SVGs like this would make craft products have a higher selling point and value. Thus, also bringing your business and branding to a higher level.

4. Take criticism (but not to heart!)

More often than not, your customers will have criticism and complaints regarding your craft items. No matter how you make craft products, what you sell, and the quality, it is impossible to satisfy every single one of them. I mean, how often do you see a shop with a perfect 100% rating on their sales?

With that being said, these criticisms should not be a reason for you to quit your business! Your customers just want you to improve your services. And by doing so, you can get more customers (even when they can be a bit mean sometimes…).

So take that constructive criticism and build your business to be better. Don’t be afraid to push into the complaints more, lend an ear and listen to what your customers have to say. This will help you find the true roots of the problems and even build a new relationship with your customer.

It really is one of the best ways to keep your customers happy and coming back for more.

One thing I’ve learned while being a crafter and learning how to sell handmade craft is that nothing about this is ever 100% right or 100% wrong. At the end of the day, no plan is completely fool-proof but likewise, no experiment is a guaranteed fail.

It takes time and personal experience to find what truly works for each business. But with courage and unwavering persistence, any business can be a successful business. And don’t forget that you are doing this for you!

Sometimes when you turn a hobby into a business, it can be easy to lose track of the joy and happiness that crafting brings you due to the pressure of having to make a profit.
