7 Reasons Why Your Handmade Crafty Products Aren’t Selling

Share :

Doing business is never just all fun and games. Sometimes there are just moments when you suddenly find that your crafty products aren’t selling. Of course, this is something that no one wishes for their business but it happens and you are definitely not the only one!

Now, if you find yourself in this situation, the first thing to do to overcome this is to find out the reason why your crafty products aren’t selling. There are many possibilities as to why this might happen, but I have compiled seven of the most common reasons why crafts don’t sell.

Let’s get to it, shall we?

Reasons Why Your Crafty Products Aren’t Selling

1. Unique Selling Points

The truth is, there are sooo many handmade products businesses nowadays. This means you have many competitors out there who are selling products similar to yours.

So the reason why your crafty products aren’t selling could be due to the lack of Unique Selling Points or USPs that your business has.

Unique selling points, as the name suggests, are important to have for a business because they can help distinguish your business amongst other similar businesses. So think about it, what is it that makes your craft different from others?

2. Not Enough Marketing

Whether you sell your craft through an online platform, an actual store, or at craft events and fairs, marketing is one of the top most important things that you need to do. If you are not marketing your business, then it might be the reason why your crafty products aren’t selling.

There are many ways that you can promote and market your business. If you are still new to the industry then you can start with something as simple as asking your family and friends to promote your products for you.

3. Overselling

“Will you buy this shirt? No one else is buying it!”

“Please help me out and buy this. I promise you won’t regret it!”

Have you ever heard those words being said at a craft fair? Or maybe even you were the one saying it? Then that could be the reason your crafty products aren’t selling!

Sometimes—often in craft events—you can get desperate when your crafty products aren’t selling while the day is already coming to an end. This is when “overselling” usually happens.

You need to avoid doing this. Though you always need to market your crafts, overselling them is never the right way to go. In fact, it can drive your potential customers away!

4. Not Knowing Your Niche

A niche is a market that consists of a group that is defined by certain unique needs, preferences, or identities. For example, if you sell homemade house decorations then your niche would be dominated by stay-at-home moms.

Knowing your niche is an important step in expanding your business. By knowing your niche, you will be able to make choices to make sure your products are being marketed to the right people.

5. Lack of Description

Crafty products aren’t selling well on Etsy? Well, when you sell a physical item online you always want to make sure your customers have all of the information they need

Most of the time people choose to shop online for convenience so no one likes to ask questions one after another.

So make sure you put all of the details of your products on your descriptions to make your potential buyers have the easiest access to your products possible!

What sizes do your products come in? Are there any color options? Even things like how long should your buyer expect the shipping to take? Put as much information as you can so your buyers don’t have to wonder and guess.

6. Quality Is Always #1

Of course, you would want to provide affordable products you can give to your customers. But this does not mean you get to sacrifice the quality of your craft in order to put out the cheapest items possible. And high-quality products don’t need to mean they would be expensive!

It all depends on how you create and how smart you can be in finding resources. For example, Drizy Studio has so many high-quality designs all with the proper licenses so you can use the designs commercially.

How you create your crafts also matters so much in your sales. Take these pictures for example, which one would you prefer to buy if you were a customer?

What makes these two designs different is how the color schemes work with each other. The second one is much more appealing than the other because the colors fits the theme—in this case, Christmas—better!

7. Presentation and Brand Image

Now that you have your high-quality items, but your crafty products aren’t selling still? You might be missing this last step!

The pictures you put up online are your business’s first impression to your potential customers. This means no matter how high-quality your products are, how will people know if your published pictures don’t look like it? And if your pictures look “cheap” then so will your brand image

So it might even be worth considering hiring a professional photographer service. Professional photographer or not, make sure that the photos you put up are of the best quality, lighting, angle, and composition. Make your products look as appealing as possible!
